Does glazing bring about feelings of panic or dread? Find yourself often disappointed in your glaze results? Or maybe you’re just curious about different types of glazes and how to apply them? This class is for you! We will approach glazes and glazing in a straight-forward way with plenty of hands-on learning and experimentation so that you can leave feeling more confident and free with your work.

This is part one of a three part Glaze series. Part two (February 2026) will focus on how to find recipes, mix, and test them. Part three (March 2026) will focus on adjusting glazes for color and fit.

Learn a new skill or revisit an old hobby in this fun introductory class. You will learn the basics of creating functional and sculptural ceramics by hand through pinching, coiling, and using molds. We will cover basic studio use, preparing clay, basic construction techniques, decorating, firing, and glazing.

In this second level beginner class you will continue to learn new handbuilding techniques, including carving, hard slab construction, solid building, hollowing, and sculpting. In addition, you will learn how to use wire, the spray booths, and how to create test tiles to deepen your creative skills.

In this introductory class you will learn the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel. We will cover basic studio use, preparing clay, centering, pulling cylinders, trimming pieces, firing, and glazing.

Expand your throwing beyond the cylinder. In this second level beginner class you will learn the basics of throwing rounded (bellied out) forms and bowls. In addition, you will learn how to attach handles, use bats, and expand your decorating skills beyond simple glazes.

If you’re looking to refine your skills on the pottery wheel and move beyond the beginning levels, this class if for you. We will work on getting more even (and thinner) walls, creating narrow necks, altering forms on and off the wheel, creating and refining lips, rims, and spouts, throwing utility items (test tiles and glaze catchers), and more advanced glazing techniques to take your work to the next level.

In this class we will explore the forms and aesthetics of Japanese chawan (tea bowls) and other handbuilt vessels while learning to embrace the beauty of imperfection, the organic, and the asymmetrical in functional forms.

This is part one of a two part series, each part can be taken separately, though it is highly recommended to take both in order to learn all the techniques. Part Two covers working on the wheel and advanced glazing and alternative firings.

This class utilizes and builds upon some techniques from Part One. We will learn how to create asymmetrical and organic forms on the wheel through various techniques and in a broad range of sizes. Starting with the basic teabowl form and other small drinking vessels, we will move to taller bottle and vase forms before ending with larger bowls and planters.

This is part two of a two part series, each part can be taken separately, though it is highly recommended to take both in order to learn all the techniques. Part One covers history and current artists working with the style as well as hand building and pre-glaze decorating.
