Skill Level: Two - Beginner-Intermediate (experience with Handbuilding required)

Requirements: At least three ceramics class and ability to create objects with slab building and other handbuilding techniques

We will cover (briefly) how to mix your own colored clay, but this class is mostly about using it (making it is easy) so how to marble, layer, do nerikomi...fun stuff!

Week One:

How to make colored clay

Blending colors

Creating gradients

Layering colored clay

Week Two:

Using contrasting slip

Creating patterns (nerikomi)

Creating inlaid slabs

Week Three:

Marbling Clay

Refining surfaces

Glazing and other finishing options

Week Four:

Finishing things up!

Adding jewelry hardware

Repairs

Included with class:

  • A selection of colored cone 6 stoneware and white cone 6 stoneware

  • Firings for work made in class

  • Jewelry findings and other related materials

  • Studio access outside of class time during the following hours:

    Monday-Thursday 8:30AM-9:00PM, Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM, Saturday & Sunday 10:00AM-4:00PM


You will need to bring:

  • A selection of handbuilding tools

  • craft foam sheet (preferably 11x14)

  • An open mind and a sense of adventure! (Also a willingness to fail)
