We will go over how to select clay for using with Raku, talk about and try out naked raku, horeshair raku, slip+paper saggars, plain old american raku, and everyone's favorite Obvara. We are gonna do it all. Or try anyway. A lot of this is new to me as well so we are just gonna go for it and all learn together.
First class will be in the studio to go over all the basics, after that we will just be burning pots outside.
Skill Level: Two - Beginner-Intermediate (we do not go over construction methods in this class, you need to be able to make your own pieces)
Requirements: At least three ceramics class and ability to work with clay and create your own objects for firing, no class time is allotted to making of work

This class requires you to be able to make your own pieces for firing and to do so outside of class time. Class time is strictly for the firings and experimentation!

15 lbs cone 6 clay
Three Raku firings
Glazes and other materials ofr the firings
Studio access outside of class time during the following hours:
Monday-Thursday 8:30AM-9:00PM, Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM, Saturday & Sunday 10:00AM-4:00PM

Bisqued pieces for firing made with clay rated for cone 6 or higher or with clay listed for use with Raku (for second class and beyond)
An open mind and a sense of adventure! (Also a willingness to fail)
