Community Raku and Potluck!!

Community Raku and Potluck!!
Sunday, May 31, 2:00PM-6:00PM
Come join us for a fun afternoon of firing outdoors with Raku!
Raku is a firing process where pots are quickly heated up to 1900F then pulled while glowing hot and placed into chambers filled with combustible materials. These materials burst into flame and are then covered, starving the glazes of oxygen and creating brilliant metallic surfaces that shimmer and mesmerize and turning the clay body black. No two pots are ever the same!
All ages welcome, no experience required.

You can bring your own pre-bisqued pieces* or purchase a piece made by our staff and residents which are ready to decorate. Bring some food to share, and come hang out as we fire the pots, watch us pull them from the kiln while they’re red hot, enjoy the drama and excitement of the reduction flames, and walk away with a truly unique memento (or three). We will have a selection of raku glazes for you to choose from and will provide brushes. Bring your own beverages, but no alcohol at this event, please.
Important Information:
Participation Fee is valid for one Teen or Adult and covers the firing of up to three pieces (you do not need to pay to attend and simply watch or if you’d just like to join in on the potluck)
Child Add-On is valid for kids 12 and under (must be accompanied by an adult) and must be purchased along with a participation fee - this includes one item of their choice from our selection made by staff and residents for them to decorate and have fired
Pre-made pieces can be purchased in advance (you will select your piece when you arrive) or purchased during the event. Please keep in mind these may run out during the event, pre-purchasing assures you will have a piece when you arrive.
If you plan on staying for a bit, bring a chair!
Should the weather not cooperate we will email everyone with an option to reschedule.
*Pieces must be made from cone 6 or higher clay (or one specifically for Raku), no larger than five inches in any dimension, and free of cracks. Sorry but we can not fire jewelry or other small items during this event.
