If you’re looking to refine your skills on the pottery wheel and move beyond the beginning levels, this class if for you. We will work on getting more even (and thinner) walls, creating narrow necks, altering forms on and off the wheel, creating and refining lips, rims, and spouts, throwing utility items (test tiles and glaze catchers), and more advanced glazing techniques to take your work to the next level.
Skill Level: Three (Intermediate)
Requirements: Pull 6 inch tall cylinders and 4 inch wide round bottom bowls as well as be able to trim.
This level three class is designed for those who are looking to refine their skills on the pottery wheel and move on from the beginner levels. We will work on getting more even (and thinner) walls, creating narrow necks, altering forms on and off the wheel, creating and refining lips, rims, and spouts, throwing utility items (test tiles and glaze catchers), and more advanced glazing techniques to take your work to the next level.
Week 1:
Demonstrations: Throwing even walls and throwing test tiles.
Discussion: Test Tiles, wall thickness, getting the most from your clay on the wheel.
Week 2:
Demonstration: Lips, rims, and spouts, narrow-necked and closed forms, throwing glaze catchers, refining and altering wet forms, cutting and texturing test tiles.
Discussion: Using heat guns.
Week 3:
Demonstration: Altering leather hard forms, finishing feet and bottoms, pulling handles, and using chucks and chums for trimming.
Discussion: Using test tiles.
Week 4:
Demonstration: Using flux washes, re-glazing, using glaze catchers and wasters.
Discussion: Re-bisquing, multiple firings, re-glazing tips and tricks .
Included with class:
15 lbs cone 6 clay
Firings of all work made during the course
Studio access outside of class time during the following hours:
Monday-Thursday 8:30AM-9:00PM, Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM, Saturday & Sunday 10:00AM-4:00PM
You will need to bring:
**We have community tools available for use, however these are not guaranteed and it is highly recommended you purchase your own**
