Handbuilding Level Two
In this second level beginner class you will continue to learn new handbuilding techniques, including carving, hard slab construction, solid building, hollowing, and sculpting techniques. In addition you will learn how to use wire, the spray booths, and create test tiles to deepen your creative skills.
Skill Level: Two (Beginner-Intermediate)
Requirements: Having completed Introduction to Handbuilding or similar experience
In this second level beginner class you will continue to learn new handbuilding techniques, including carving, hard slab construction, solid building, hollowing, and sculpting techniques. In addition you will learn how to use wire, the spray booths, and create test tiles to deepen your creative skills.
Week 1:
Demonstrations: Extruders, Slab Roller, and Forming clay for carving
Projects: Rolling slabs, small carved vessel, maquette
Week 2:
Demonstration: Sculptural forms, Lidded box, Carving, Test tiles
Projects: Lidded box, Solid sculptural form, Test Tiles, and Finishing carved vessel
Week 3:
Demonstration: Detailing, Hollowing out solid forms, Using wire, Spraying glaze
Focus: Finishing sculptural form, Detailing, and Finishing
Week 4:
Focus: Test tiles results and finishing projects
Focus: Finishing up!
Included with class:
-15 lbs cone 6 clay
-firings of all work made during the course
-outside of class studio access within the following hours:
Mon-Thur 8:30am-9pm, Fri 8:30am-5pm, Sat & Sun 10am-4pm
