Skill Level: Three (Intermediate)

Requirements: Completion of Handbuilding Two, Introduction to Coil Building, or similar experience with coil building and clay.

Dates: Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2, 10:30AM-5:30PM (with one hour for lunch)

This class will help you develop the skills needed to build larger (and thinner) with coils.

In this two-day Weekend Intensive, you will build two larger (12 to 18 inches or taller) organic freeform vessels in tandem, honing your skills and techniques in building larger works. You will learn how to listen to your clay, control drying, create thinner and more even walls, and how to let go and enjoy the act of creation without putting too much pressure on yourself and the clay. This freedom from expectation will allow you to focus solely on skill and technique, encouraging you to be creative and responsive in your own practice.

• 30 pounds of cone 6 clay

• Bisque and glaze firing of work produced during the class.

You will need to bring:

Clay tools—a serrated rib, a rounded (bowl) rib, wooden pottery knife, and a paddle (wooden or bamboo spatula works well)
