Come learn a new skill or revisit an old hobby in this fun introductory class. You will learn the basics of creating functional and sculptural ceramics by hand by pinching, coiling, and using molds. We will cover basic studio use, preparing clay, basic construction techniques, decorating, firing, and glazing.
In this second level beginner class you will continue to learn new handbuilding techniques, including carving, hard slab construction, solid building, hollowing, and sculpting techniques. In addition you will learn how to use wire, the spray booths, and create test tiles to deepen your creative skills.
In this introductory class you will learn the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel. We will cover basic studio use, preparing clay, centering, pulling cylinders, trimming pieces, firing, and glazing. Come learn a new skill or revisit an old hobby with this fun hands-on class.
Expand your throwing beyond the cylinder. In this second level beginner class you will learn the basics of throwing rounded (bellied out) forms and bowls. In addition you will learn how to attach handles, use bats, and expand your decorating skills beyond simple glazes.
This level three class is designed for those who are looking to refine their skills on the pottery wheel and move on from the beginner levels. We will work on getting more even (and thinner) walls, creating narrow necks, altering forms on and off the wheel, work on lips, rims, and spouts, cover throwing utility items (test tiles and glaze catchers,) and more advanced glazing techniques to take your work to the next level.
In this hybrid class we will focus on taking your ceramic skills further and getting you to your next stage, wherever that may be, whether that be on the wheel or by hand. Demos will be decided by the group and individual needs.
