Learn how to find and use various objects for creating textures on your work! We will talk about evaluating materials for use, how to best utilize them to create texture, and how to decorate our textured surfaces to create visually dynamic and layered finishes. This class is open to ALL Levels, though some experience with clay will be helpful.
Week 1: Orientation and Introduction to materials and processes
Week 2: Creating physical texture on slabs before construction and imprinting methods after construction (hand built and/or wheel thrown) including the use of slips
Week 3: Creating visual texture using washes and underglazes
Week 4: Selecting and using glazes to highlight textural elements and using found/repurposed objects for application
For the first day of class, you will want to bring:
-Clay tools. If you don’t already have some, a link to the recommended items will be sent along with the class info email after signup.
The Lab Fees will supply a starter kit of:
-15lbs of Cone 6, light colored stoneware and use of studio glazes
- Bisque and Glaze firings for all work created during the 4 weeks of the class
- Outside of class Studio access with the following schedule:
Monday- Thursday: 8:30am - 9pm
Friday: 8:30am - 5pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10am - 4pm
