In this course, you will learn several underglaze decoration techniques at all
stages of clay. Learn the techniques of sgraffito,
mishima, monoprinting and stencils (plus additional techniques shown upon student request). Surface and decoration is the focus of class time,
but some simple handbuilding demonstrations will be included as well.
• Week 1 – Slab Building and Underglaze Painting Basics
• Week 2 – Sgraffito
• Week 3 – Monoprinting and Paper Stencils
• Week 4 – Finishing and any requested demos
For the first day of class, you will want to bring:
Paint Brushes, Clay Tools, Underglazes, a pen/pencil and Sketchbook
The Lab Fees will supply a starter kit of:
- One 15lb bag of Cone 6 stoneware clay
- Bisque and Glaze firings for all work created during the 4 weeks of the class.
- Outside of class Studio access with the following schedule:
Monday- Thursday: 8:30am - 9pm
Friday: 8:30am - 5pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10am - 4pm
