Take your glassblowing skills to the next level with a three-day “Introduction to Cane” workshop taught by Hoseok Youn January 17 through January 19, 2025.
Pulling cane is a technique often used in glassblowing to create colorful patterns and designs in the appearance of glass. This technique was invented over 2,000 years ago in Italy and perfected on the island of Murano. When making glass cane, the glass gets pulled into long glass rods (cane) then cut into smaller lengths that are used to add patterns to the glass, often as stripes or twists.
In this 3-day workshop, students will learn the steps to setting up a successful "cane pull" and how to use the cane by doing "cane roll ups." Students will learn how to properly heat and shape the glass, add color(s), pull cane, and create patterns with cane. A variety of different cane styles will be covered including straight cased cane, veiled cane, flat cane, and twisted cane.
*Glass 2 or equivalent required.
