Location: 2011 Tracy Ave

Skill Level: Intermediate (must know the basics of coil building and managing moisture levels in clay)

This class will help you develop the skills needed to build larger with coils!

We will build two larger (12-18 inches or greater!) organic freeform vessels in tandem, allowing us to hone our skills and techniques in building larger works. We will learn how to listen to our clay, control drying, create thinner and more even walls, and how to let go and enjoy the act of creation without putting too much pressure on ourselves and the clay. This freedom from expectation allows us to focus solely on skill and technique, while also encouraging us to be creative and responsive in our own practice. In addition we will touch on how to evaluate and select clay bodies for working larger and how to add grog to existing clay to aid in creating taller forms.

Included with class:

-30 lbs cone 6 clay

-bisque and glaze firing of work produced in the intensive in our gas kiln

You will need to bring:

Clay tools: a serrated rib, a rounded (bowl) rib, wooden pottery knife, and a paddle (wooden or bamboo spatula works well)
