FAQ

kids Art Camp - FAQ

Where is Kids Art Camp held?
Belger Crane Yard Studios location, 2011 Tracy Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64108 *Return Campers: please note our location has changed!

What is the age requirement?
Campers must be 7 years old by the first day of camp and no older than 12 years old. Pottery wheel experiences work best for students 7 years and older because of the physical strength needed to throw on the wheel as well as the size of the equipment. Unfortunately we can not make exceptions due to liability reasons.

How do I register my child for a class?
You can register online, on the previous web page.

What information do I need to provide?
A completed registration form per Camper is required, and includes a list of questions such as guardian contacts, medical needs, etc. The registration form is a part of online signup, and should appear when you add Summer Art Camp to your cart, before check out.

Can guardians visit camp?
We encourage Campers to share their projects and progress with their guardians each day at pick up. Safety precautions in our studio require us to restrict visitors from prolonged visits at pickup each day. At the end of each week , we hold a group ‘art show’ where Campers are encouraged to create a display for their guardians to take home and enjoy.

What do I do if my child misses a day or must leave early?
If your child will need to miss or needs to be excused early from class, please notify staff as soon as you are aware of this prior to class. Instructors will not allow students to leave class early for any reason without prior guardian notification.

What is the cancellation policy?
If you need to change or cancel your child’s registration, please do so 8 or more days before the scheduled camp session:

  • If you change your child’s registration within 7-1 days before the scheduled Camp session, there will be a $50 fee charged.

  • If you cancel your child’s registration within 7-4 days before the scheduled Camp session, there will be a 50% ($150) fee deducted.

  • If you cancel your child’s registration within 3 days before the scheduled Camp session, the enrollment fee will not be refunded.

What is the late pick-up policy?

  • Being 10 minutes late or more to pick-up will result in fee equal to the Extended Care rate ($20/hr).

How should my child dress for camp?
Because the creative process is sometimes messy, we ask that Campers “dress for mess.”  While most materials used in class will come out in the wash, some may not.  Campers must wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops).  Clean aprons and towels are provided while in class.

What do students do for lunch?
Students are responsible for their own lunch, whether participating in a full or half day. Please pack food that does not need to be heated up or refrigerated. The Studio provides individually packaged snacks, distributed once in the afternoons.

What types of electronic devices are Campers allowed to bring (ex. cell phones, ipads, laptops, etc.)?
Campers are discouraged from bringing electronic devices to class. We want to avoid distractions and damage to devices that may result from contact with materials used in class (especially water and clay).  Please leave them at home unless they would like access to them during Extended Care. Campers may use the BCYS’ phone if they need to get in contact with anyone.

Are full- and half-day camps separate camps?
Full-day and half-day options are available for the flexibility of guardians and Campers. Also, we have found that some kids work best in shorter or longer time spans. You know your child best. Instructors plan art lessons to work with each option.

What is Extended Care? How do I sign my child up?
Extended Care, either directly before or after a day of camp, is available for an additional $20 per hour per child. Reservations are required 24-hours in advance. A one-hour minimum is required. Guardians may drop their child off up to one hour before camp starts and pick-up their child up to one hour after camp finishes. Before and After care activities are supervised by staff, but are not supplemented with additional art lessons. Activities could consist of drawing, reading, board/card games, etc. You can register online, on the previous web page.

What are the safety protocols in the studio regarding COVID-19?
We are committed to maintaining a safe place for visitors, studio members, and staff. For contact tracing purposes we ask that each camp participant sign in upon arrival. We will continue to monitor City of Kansas City, MO mandates and CDC guidelines and update our safety measures.
