artist Statement
In my practice of sculptural ceramics I navigate the topography of emotional experience. This is a personal narrative suspended in nostalgia and memory. My ritual applies metaphors of lineage and influence through the use of material and iteration, creating textures that arise in the haptics of the making. Through my work I represent clear manifestations of experiential moments, small monuments, a juxtaposition of permanence with impermanence.
I use soft color palettes to evoke a sense of celebration and reminiscence. Instead of engaging in a predetermined process of creation, I engage in experiential play within the liminal space: a call and response that happens between me and the material. I approach “byproduct” as a notion worth observing and building upon. My process of building forms retains architectural motifs in combination with economy- using, reusing and rendering towards an ever present ambiance of noise. I am interested in the unfolded narrative, nuance and the unseen.
