Miguel Alaniz
Bio
Miguel Alaniz graduated from Emporia State University in 2018 with a bachelors degree in Fine Arts, concentrating in both, Ceramics and Glass Forming. During his time at ESU he was active in Emporia’s community by teaching classes at Emporia Arts Council as well as demonstrating ceramics and glass forming techniques at Emporia High School. The same place his love of these two mediums began. Miguel has been working with the materials since his sophomore year in high school, giving him a 11 years of experience. Miguel started out his carrier doing more sculptural work but found his passion for functional ware through his time working with the elements. His appreciation for quality, form, and technique is what pulls him towards this type of work. He is currently a Gaffer/assistant at Rock Cottage Glassworks as well as apprenticing with established potter, Danny Meisinger. Miguel is currently creating a line of work that merges the two entities in a unique style all his own.
Artist Statement
I am an artisan that specializes in Ceramics and Glass Forming. My focus is to create a unique aesthetic experience within functional ware and house décor. I do this by highlighting and combining the qualities of both Glass and Clay. This body of work explores form, function, and technique to transform the ordinary into extra ordinary.
