Class Overview
In this class, you will explore the “cane” making process, one of the most striking techniques for adding color, pattern, and design to glass. As you work with this process, you will gain a stronger understanding of the natural properties of glass in its molten state.

What You Will Learn
Artist Matt Uban will guide you through a survey of cane making, beginning with basic techniques and building toward more elaborate compositions as time allows.

You will study and discuss historical examples of cane work, while instructor demonstrations will show practical ways to keep the process on track. Class discussions will help you understand why certain approaches work and what happens when the process goes off course.

Studio Practice
As time allows, you will use the cold shop to refine and further develop your compositions. Come prepared to draw your ideas, ask plenty of questions, and enjoy the process.
