Explore the forms and decorative details of American Colonial glassware in this hands-on glassblowing workshop. Created in celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary, Handling History, Bit by Bit uses early American glass traditions as inspiration for contemporary work.

Resident artist Jamison Cole will review foundational glassblowing techniques and demonstrate how to create handles, stems, and historic adornments such as lily pad textures, prunts, and sculpted rooster and turkey finials. You can apply these elements to your own forms or recreate traditional silhouettes for a historically informed result.

Through live demonstrations, guided practice, and discussion of historic objects, you will learn how Colonial American glass was made, used, and decorated while developing practical skills they can incorporate into their own studio work.
