Taylor Moore

Bio & Artist statement

Taylor Moore is a Kearney, Nebraska based glass artist with a keen interest in exploring color application techniques and pushing the limits of what he can achieve working solo in the hot shop.

He grew up in central Nebraska, working with his father as a homebuilder with an interest in art, but not much talent.  As a freshmen at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, he took an introductory glassblowing class on a whim, and like so many are, he was instantly transfixed by the medium.  He wound up taking every course the University offered in glass, and then when he ran out of courses continued on in independent study.

After graduating with a multidisciplinary degree, life got between him and the medium for about a decade while he lived and worked in various places across the country, but now that he’s back in his hometown of Kearney, the University glass program has welcomed him back and for the past three years he’s been spending as much time in the studio as life allows.

The rhythm and technical aspects of the medium never came naturally to him, and part of why he loves it is that it challenges him so completely that blowing glass is like meditation; the entire outside world fades away in the dance of the heat, rhythm, and physical exertion of coaxing the glass into the desired product.

Color and scale are the two elements that really drive him, and while he enjoys working with a team, particularly with the students with the same hunger he has for glass, he appreciates the added challenge of seeing what can be achieved as a solo glassblower, and the problem solving required to either change the workplace or change the work to make a solo project viable.
