Artist Statement
Serap planters are the first of my Wet Pot series and first body of work in 7 years. Initial inspiration came from within a niche part of the Aquarium Arts. The object holds water. Epiphyte Plants are attached to the exterior via glue or string. The natural quality of the ceramic pot “sweats” the water inside allowing the plants on the exterior to drink. Epiphytes are plants that grow on another plant but are not parasitic. Numerous ferns, bromeliads, air plants, and orchids grow on tree trunks in tropical rainforests. These plants act as surface decoration and give a degree of authorship to the owner, (of course in relation to the pot.)
These objects are created via paths used in the imploring of 3d modeling, 3d printing, Mold making, and my hands.
