Evan Wunsch

Bio

Evan Wunsch is a Kansas City based stained glass artist and cinematographer.  After studying film at New York University, he embarked on a career shooting mainly documentaries, finding joy in the travel and connections with interesting strangers that came along with the work. Stained glass came into his life as an antidote to the ephemerality of film and video.

Artist statement

Stained glass, as a medium, unavoidably carries with it strong associations with theology and the divine. I'm seeking a way forward in this same vein of spiritual illumination, but with an eye towards a universal language of divinity that speaks to all people in all places and all times. By incorporating archetypal imagery of the human form and stripping away the symbols of any single faith tradition, I hope to breathe new life into an ancient art form, while honoring the history of the craft and the ideal that the artists of the past were striving towards.
