6-Week Class, Intermediate Levels Welcome!

Skill Level: intermediate
This course will teach students how to sculpt various flowers and other vegetation out of clay. Students
will learn how to design a functional or nonfunctional piece that incorporates these sculpted elements.
Throughout this class, students will produce a piece that includes floral design elements and will learn a
variety of techniques for flower construction, including coiling, pinching, and using stencils. Students will
be taught strategic surface finishing techniques to best highlight the sculpted flora on their pieces.
Timeline:
Week 1) Students will be introduced to the variety of methods they can use to sculpt flowers, create small
tests, begin thinking about final piece
Week 2) Further demonstrations, students work on their pieces
Week 3) Workday, demonstrations as needed/requested, discuss glazing strategies and glaze test tiles
Week 4) Finish wetwork, dry pieces slowly, share test tiles as a class
Week 5) Glazing
Week 6) Post-firing assembly as needed, show and tell

Shop glazes
all firings throughout the course
Outside of class access with the following schedule-
Mon-Thur 8:30am-9pm, Fri 8:30am-5pm, Sat & Sun 10am-4pm
You Bring:
Basic Pottery Tool Kit
Hake and/or Sumi brushes
Small takeout containers (to be used as wetboxes)
