Josh Martin

Bio

Josh Martin was born on a farm in small-town Missouri and raised by a mother who was a doll maker by trade. He received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting from the University of Central Missouri in 2012. And has been a professional tattooer for the past 12 years. Josh uses his background in illustration, design and tattooing to show an approachable narrative with emotional subjects

Artist Statement

Growing up around dolls, Josh has an appreciation for giving life to inanimate objects, creating a dialogue between the piece and viewer. The playful nature of design, color and patterns tell a story about himself and reactions to the outside world. Humor and faces are used to show emotion and response to external influences. To further this narrative Josh also draws on images used in tattooing and Americana. The intention is to foster a sense of escapism in the viewer and for them to continue a conversation with the work on their own terms and in their own world.
