Six-week special topic workshop on teaching hot shop and cold shop techniques
SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER
Wednesdays, September 3 - October 8 2025, 6:00 - 9:30 pm each class
Learn how to utilize glassblowing techniques and finish them in the cold shop! Glass artists often use a variety of techniques to create and finish their work. Sometimes blowing glass is just the first step before the piece moves to the “cold shop” for cutting, grinding, sandblasting or another coldworking process.
The first four sessions will be in the hot shop and will include various color applications such as: overlay, frit/powder coating and various pattern applications. The last two sessions will take place in the cold shop where you will learn how to finish work with the following techniques: grinding and polishing, sandblasting, varnishing, and hand engraving. Don’t miss your chance to conceptualize and execute a work of art with forethought for cold working methods.
No previous cold working experience necessary. Glass 2 or equivalent required.
