Artist Statement
With a focus on functionality, the tactile experience is of equal importance to visual elements and aesthetic principles. I want to create objects that are not only interesting and enjoyable to look at, but also compelling to the touch. Surface texture and pattern is one way I explore this aspect of pottery. Raw clay in combination with complex elements of smooth, glossy glaze can create a complementary effect. Inspiration is found in everyday, utilitarian objects that can be re-imagined from commonplace to conspicuous.
