Artist Statement
These two pieces are from my series I Watched 100 Clouds..., a project where I observed clouds around the world, sketched them on site, and infused each work with the emotions of that day. I sit outdoors with only a sketchbook, watching the sky and letting instinct guide my hand. Later, I translate those sketches into clay forms.
In the Mediterranean, I recorded the shifting weather of Rethymno and the bare treetops outside the Teatro Antico di Taormina. I turned rainclouds, rainbows, and tree branches hidden by clouds into lidded containers, which must be opened to reveal what is concealed behind the clouds. My works might differ from real clouds, but they carry the presence of the maker through intuition.
