artist statement
My practice explores the unexpected, playfully reimagining the ordinary through a canine lens. Dogs, with their raw and honest expressions of desire and emotion, become a mirror and foil to the often-masked complexities of human nature. By blending everyday objects and experiences with canine traits, I invite viewers to rediscover the absurdity and magic that is often hidden within the familiar.
Sculptures, paintings, and immersive installations become playgrounds for this process of “dogification.” A loaf of bread grins like a bulldog, a chair assumes the loyalty of a golden retriever, and an art fair bustles like an off-leash dog park. These transformations are more than whimsical; they act as magnifying glasses, amplifying the humor and wonder embedded in the mundane.
At the heart of this exploration is a desire to spark critical re-evaluation through playfulness. In a world overloaded with anxiety and complexity, simple joy becomes a radical gesture. This body of work began after a period of introspection, where creating these “canine companions” offered a playful refuge from external pressures. That same spirit of curiosity and levity continues to drive my practice, even as my installations grow in scale and ambition.
By dogifying the everyday, my work distorts the surface of the ordinary, encouraging viewers to engage in both lighthearted and probing reflections. This playful lens acts as a Trojan horse—inviting laughter while subtly challenging our assumptions about power, consumerism, and the boundaries of the mundane.
