Artist Statement
As a potter, I live for drama. A strong theme throughout my work since the beginning of my practice is a propensity for flair. Undulating silhouettes, matching fluttery lips and feet, carefully carved lines, tediously slip-trailed dots, and the occasional belts of human teeth are all recurring themes in my vessels. I am especially attracted to high contrast forms and concentrated detail that invites the viewer to inspect my pieces. Lidded vessels have become a favorite of mine to make for the opportunity to carry the visual elements on the body of the piece over onto the lid. Creating a satisfying close to the form, the lid is a second opportunity to ensure that surface alterations of the body are woven throughout the form.
