Artist Statement
I have been making pottery wholeheartedly since 2021. I make most of my work using the potter’s wheel, but utilize hand-building techniques.
Before ceramics, I had a strong 2D background in painting and printmaking. I have woven these techniques into my work, and employ varied approaches to decorating with altering, carving, slip trailing, and inlay. A common motif in my work is my natural surroundings here in North Carolina. I often forage for flowers, leaves, or other organic material to use as reference while working.
I strive to improve my craft through diligence and consistency. I’m trying to have more fun with the pots I am making- enjoying the small moments in the making process to feel more connected to the clay, and my environment.
