Shane Lutzk is a unique ceramic artist. He was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of nine. Much of his work depicts his struggle with the disease. He wants to bring awareness to the public of the ramifications of this disease and the positive outcome it can have. He is also one of the select ceramic artists making monumental pieces for the public or for private collectors.
Lutzk completed his BFA in ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute in 2014. Lutzk earned his Master of Fine Arts at Arizona State University in May of 2017. His work was recognized and he received awards for his ceramics. In the summer of 2017, Lutzk was a resident artist at C.R.E.T.A. ROME in Rome, Italy.
Currently, he is the Head of Ceramics at Eastern Illinois University. His work is in the collections of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, in Kansas City, Missouri; The Ken Ferguson Teaching Collection at the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. He has a public piece displayed at the AC Marriot Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. He has commissioned work in the homes of art collectors.
Recently, he collaborated with Russell Ferguson for a major exhibition at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri.
Lutzk has strong honorable ethics. He is focused and passionate in pursuing his ambition as a ceramic artist.
