Michael Weimer was born and raised in Downers Grove Illinois. Throughout his life he was exposed to aviation by his family, which encouraged him to pursue a pilot’s license at age 17. Aviation has greatly influenced his artwork by exposing him to different mindsets and perspectives. This translates into his studio practice by his emphasis in materials and kiln firing experimentations. Michael’s love for material research led him to study abroad with West Virginia University in 2017 in Jingdezhen China where his work completely changed from functional pottery to carved tile. Currently Michael is working on his flight instructor license and is in his last semester at the Kansas City Art Institute and will receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics in December 2018.
