Location: 2011 Tracy Ave

Skill Level: Beginner (experience helpful but not required)

Learn how to use sharp objects (no running!) of all kinds (chisels, knives, saw blades, etc)  to create unique functional and non-functional objects with incredible surfaces and texture! From carving thrown and molded pottery to forming and shaping solid blocks of clay that we hollow out (kurinuki), we will cover it all! No experience required! (though it is helpful)

Week 1: Introduction to tools + Carving and hollowing solid forms (kurinuki)

Week 2: Carving and altering hollow thrown and handbuilt forms

Week 3: Clay body choices and additions for carving + Surface decoration techniques 

Week 4: Continuation on surface decoration/treatments and putting it all together!


Included with class:

-15 lbs cone 6 clay

-firings of all work made during the course

-outside of class studio access with the following schedule:

Mon-Thur 8:30am-9pm, Fri 8:30am-5pm, Sat & Sun 10am-4pm

You will need to bring:

Basic clay tools. If you don’t already have some, a link to the recommended items will be sent along with the class info email after signup. Your instructor will provide an assortment of tools for class use.
